ok, so for those of you who don't know, I'm fairly big into cycling. Not to the competition level, but I use my bike like most people use a car. It is my primary mode of transportation in the warmer months, I have, at times, biked as much as 40-50 miles in a single day.
I read a blog called Treehugger [link] which is an environmentalist website that does a lot to promote getting away from wasteful habits like driving when you could walk/bike easily enough.
Today they had some information on some things that really make me steamed.
Ok, here we go again. Motorists acting out against measure to encourage cycling and protect cyclists from idiot drivers.
Certain areas in the States have made it a misdemeanor now to throw things at cyclists from car windows, as well as making it the law for drivers to HAVE to provide a 3 foot clearance for cyclists.
The response to this? Automobile activists are planning to "blockade" a huge cyclist event "the sunrise century" ride. They plan to deliberately drive really slow, and to have "break downs" along the route which will effectively make areas of the road either unpassable for the cyclists, or at the very least, very unsafe.
Seriously, what is with these people? I swear, sometimes I think there should be some kind of psychological test before people are allowed to own/opperate a car. If you're an over-aggresive, inconsiderate, egotistical asshat, you should not be allowed a license.
